KenRadio RSS Feed now with Caching #
The KenRadio RSS Feed now has caching. I am using the If-Modified-Since header to determine whether the full RSS file needs to be send or a “304 Not Modified” is sufficient thus conserving bandwidth. The LastModifiedTime is the upload time of the latest show. This step became necessary because now all shows in the RSS feed have an encoded content. But the whole thing only started to work once I used a response.clearheaders. Without it setting the LastModifiedTime does not work.
KenRadio as RSS #
My favorite radio station is KenRadio. They make a great program talking about the latest and greatest technology news. The one thing that was missing though was an easy way to keep track of which shows you have seen… also, they have no RSS feed yet.
Having just fallen in love with RSS I just had to fix this. So in honor of Ken and Andy and their great work I created the world-first inofficial KenRadio RSS feed for them to see and their fans to enjoy. This feed gets automatically updated every time Ken puts a new show online.

Response from Lahiji #
A week ago I wrote to Chris Lahiji (Lahiji.com) giving him a few suggestions …
Hello Lahiji, I stumbled accross your website researching RSS. I am throwing together a component for my own site so that I can post RSS news feed articles to my own Weblog using a quick Windows tool. I got interested in your doings when I saw that we both share the passion for companies (stock market) and are both rather young. (I’m 29) I’d like to give you the following comments: 1) You might want to put a mission statement of some sort on your site. I still don’t know what it is that you offer after I have spend 30 minutes there. 2) If it is small cap stock analysis that you want to offer please do so in an RSS feed, so that it can be syndicated and subscribed to. 3) You seem to be leading the Lahiji Fund. Info showing it’s performance would be nice. 4) Nice design! However using less graphics to achieve it would be beneficial. Kind regards Oliver Drobnik www.drobnik.com
… and today he responded in kind fashion:
Oliver, Thanks you so much for the comments. I’d like to also say that you’re the first person from Austria to e-mail. That makes it 30 countries now! I’m almost certain that you’re from Vienna (where else would you be) and that my governor was originally from that country too. I’ll take all your comments and sent it to my programmers. If you need anything else, let me know. Your Friend from CA, Chris Lahiji http://www.lahiji.com
Back from Switzerland #
I have returned from Zurich, Switzerland. I flew with Austrian Airlines (they call themselves just “Austrian”) now. It is true: they no longer serve complimentary food. And since it’s no longer free most people on the plane passed on paying for food. Well, what do you expect when the fare is only €200 with return.
We were visiting rental real estate of ours which had been fully renovated until three weeks ago. We also met and dined with our tenants who where exhilarated to find out that we are not at all the real estate sharks they had feared we might be. On the contrary, we made every effort to meet their wishes and still keep it on an acceptable positive cashflow.
Converting Dates in ISO Format #
It’s actually rather simple. There are a lot of methods out there using XmlDocuments and such. But all you need is this …
Dim ISODateStr As String = Format(itm.date, "yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss.fffffffzzz")
Homepage of Dieter Drobnik #
My brother Dieter’s home page is still under construction. Still I’ve put a few opera songs featuring Dieter online for your enjoyment! Enjoy listening!
